How to install CUPS?

Installing CUPS is not difficult and can easily be reversed. This howto has instructions both for installing and uninstalling CUPS.

Instructions for installing CUPS

Step 1: remove e-smith-LPRng with yum

[root@hostname ~]# yum remove e-smith-LPRng

Step 2: add the 'rvandenaker-cups' repository to yum

For SME 7.0 download this .repo file and put it in /etc/yum.repos.d/ . It's important that the file retain its .repo extension or it won't be used by yum.

Step 3: install cups and friends with yum

(a) To install the CUPS printing system:

[root@hostname ~]# yum groupinstall cups

(b) To install the CUPS printing system and the PrintAnalyzer reporting tool:

[root@hostname ~]# yum groupinstall cups-printanalyzer

Step 4: clean up and reboot

Run the post-upgrade event and reboot your server:

[root@hostname ~]# /sbin/e-smith/signal-event post-upgrade

[root@hostname ~]# /sbin/e-smith/signal-event reboot

Step 5: install PrintAnalyzer (optional for those who picked option (a) in step 3)

This step only applies to those who have completed steps 1 through 4, having picked option (a) in step 3, and then decide they want to install PrintAnalyzer!

[root@hostname ~]# yum groupinstall cups-printanalyzer

[root@hostname ~]# /sbin/e-smith/signal-event cups-upgrade

Instructions for uninstalling CUPS

Step 1: use yum to remove cups and friends

[root@hostname ~]# yum groupremove cups

Step 2: install e-smith-LPRng with yum

[root@hostname ~]# yum install e-smith-LPRng

Step 3: clean up and reboot

Run the post-upgrade event and reboot your server:

[root@hostname ~]# /sbin/e-smith/signal-event post-upgrade

[root@hostname ~]# /sbin/e-smith/signal-event reboot
